Ok, so I’ve been trying to blog a bit more often these days (have you noticed?)… I’m usually blogging photos of the latest wedding or portrait session I did, but I thought I’d change it up a bit for today’s post and get a bit more personal. I’ve decided to take on a new project referred to as “Day in the Life” (DITL) sessions – or lifestyle/documentary sessions. It’s a bit different than your normal every day family portrait session…
For those that have children of your own, you know that they grow up way too fast. I feel like I can hardly keep up and capture enough photos of my 2 baby girls – every moment I spend with them is so precious. Don’t get me wrong, I love taking portrait photos of them looking beautiful every now and then, but I started to realize that I wanted to capture so much more than just their pretty faces. I wanted to document every moment with them – the every day things, the way they are as individuals, how they are with each other, things that might seem so mundane right now, but I know when I think back to this time 10, 20 years from now, it’s these “mundane” moments that I’m going to remember and cherish. Like how my husband and I are woken every morning by the sounds of giggles and chatter from our youngest daughter Nina’s room because the first thing her sister Norah does in the morning is climb into her crib to play, or how every meal time is negotiation time with Norah (who hates food) – “just 2 more bites Mommy? ok how about 3 more bites?” she’ll say, or how they’re really good at sharing with each other – sometimes, and other times…. not so much.. like when it comes to Playdoh. Her sister can’t come within 20 feet of Norah while playing Playdoh. Seriously – she’s obsessed with it.. she will watch endless Youtube videos of people making things out of Playdoh to the point where I wonder if I should be concerned.
So to kick off my newest project this year, I’m starting off with a few snaps of my own girls — this is a typical morning at our house. I’ll be posting more of my girls as well as other families so stay tuned! 🙂
